What is Omnia Makerspace?
Omnia, The Joint Autority of Education in Espoo Region is a secondary level vocational and general education provider in Finland. It has a special premise to boost entrepreneurship and digitality in SME companies, but also in teaching and learning. This premise is called Omnia Makerspace.
Omnia Makerspace is an open hub for creative tech-related development and experimentation. It is located in Aalto University premises in Otaniemi, Espoo, Finland.
Makespace has many features. It has hosted technology-focused workshops, been an environment to develop study modules, enabled free experimentation and hands-on learning. Its customers are Omnia learners, guests and staff, but also A Grid start-up-companies. To be clear: Makerspace is an open technology-focused collaboration facility, which provides a space and equipment for its customers.
There are two studios in Makerspace. One of them is for photographing and filming (also interviewing) and another for making digital CV:s. Additionally, there is a media studio for activities like podcast recording or taking small product photos.t also as a virtual reality setup.
Customers can use Makerspace equipment, which are for instance four 3D-printers, robotics, a vinyl printer, a laser cutter and construction kits suitable for electronics assembly. There is also a soldering table and virtual reality devices (laser cutter and vinyl cutter, heat press and Virtual Reality Glasses. This equipment enables for instance prototype making and new technology tool learning.
Practically anyone, who is interested in the region’s product development and manufacturing innovations, could come and learn in MakerSpace. Omnia Makerspace host will guide customers in using the equipment. When using the device for the first time, the this guidance is mandatory.
