In a world where war and conflict still claim countless lives, art often becomes a language of hope and transformation. Armenian artist and jewelry designer Artak Tadevosyan creates exceptional pieces that transform bullets into symbols of peace. Over the past nine years, his “HayAr” jewelry has evolved not only into an art form but also into an ideological movement, aiming to turn instruments of war into symbols of hope, unity, and harmony.

In this interview, Artak Tadevosyan shares insights about his creative path, guiding principles, and how art can shape societal thinking.

POGHOSYAN Lida : Artak, how did the idea of turning bullets into symbols of peace come about?

TADEVOSYAN Artak: For me, art has always been not just about aesthetics but also a means of change. Nine years ago, when I began this initiative, I was deeply aware that I wanted to create more than jewelry—I wanted to deliver a message that would speak to all nations at war. No rational person wants war, but the reality is that weapons continue to take lives.

The bullet is first and foremost associated with death, pain, and loss. I wanted to challenge that perception by giving bullets a new energy, a new meaning—one that is kind, pure, and creative.

P.L: You created the “Cross of Peace” using bullets. Can you tell us about this piece?

T.A: The “Cross of Peace” is made from used bullets, which are repurposed through a special technique. Each cross is handcrafted, individually numbered, and comes with a certificate of authenticity. These crosses are not for commercial sale; they are awarded exclusively to individuals whose work contributes to peace—through conflict resolution, humanitarian efforts, or strengthening solidarity.

Owning this piece is not about wearing a beautiful object—it’s about embodying a symbol and an idea. The wearer becomes an ambassador of peace, spreading that message within their community.

P.L: How do you see the role of art, and particularly your art, in promoting peace and shaping public consciousness?

T.A: Art is a universal language that can open new horizons and transform the way people think. Jewelry, being both personal and visible, has a unique power to spark conversation. When someone wears one of my handmade pieces, it ceases to be just an ornament. Instead, it becomes a symbol of peace—challenging the very notions of war and violence.

I come from a country that has experienced the horrors of war, and I see it as my duty to transform that experience into a conscious, meaningful, and constructive message. Today, more than ever, we need to realize how important the world is—for all of us. Every piece I create is a reminder of that truth.

P.L: What do you hope people will feel when they wear your jewelry?

T.A: I hope they feel inspired to reflect not only on external peace but also on inner peace. True peace in the world cannot exist unless it first takes root within each individual.

Every person who wears HayAr jewelry becomes a living reminder that peace is an option—that violence is not the only way. We cannot undo the pain caused by war, but we can choose how we move forward. By turning bullets into symbols of peace, I hope to change the course of history—from destruction to creation, from conflict to unity.

“Artak Tadevosyan’s “HayAr” creations are not merely art objects; they represent an ideological movement that connects the tragedies of the past with the hope of the future, evolving into a universal philosophy. This art reminds us that even the darkest of symbols can be transformed into light.
